High Interest Technologies Test Team: BP Facebook--RAT Pack

BP America Rapid Attack Teams known as the ‘RAT pack’ are using shallow draft, fast-moving vessels, sub-surface oil detection equipment and oil/water separators to clean up oil in areas of shallow water, such as surf zones and intertidal areas. These teams are already working in Mobile and Louisiana and are on stand-by, ready to go in Pensacola.

- August Dittbenner At least biodiesel can be produced from a byproduct, which is one reason it's becoming so popular. If every restaurant in the USA were to store its used cooking oil for conversion to biodiesel, it would potentially save millions of gallons of standard diesel. A diesel blend would be a possibility, too- part biodiesel, part standard diesel.

- August Dittbenner Randy, hemp will almost always require irrigation, which isn't typically necessary with corn or soybeans. That cost alone makes corn and soybeans more attractive to farmers than hemp.

Hemp was historically made into rope and cord, but over time there were more cost-effective natural and synthetic replacements that became available. Yes, people call drug-related hemp "weed," but it is definitely not a weed.

- Randy Barker ‎@August, maybe over time Hemp will prove to be very useful and the government can issue some forms of tax breaks to farmers growing it to make it more cost effective. I think over all most of the cleaner forms of energy cost alot to get started, but over time can be made cheaper if we stay dedicated to a cleaner earth.

Biodiesel is one of the most promising technologies I've researched lately. I'd love to see a power plant that operated primarily on biodiesel, even if it was a small-scale experiment.
